We are an umbrella organization for groups and individuals in the Gulf Islands, within the area administered by the Islands Trust.

We have no affiliation with the Islands Trust, nor with any other organizations, except as listed below under: ORGANIZATIONS. We are an all island group, with representatives on all the Gulf Islands.

At present, the Islands Trust Act has been in force for 35 years, since the administration of the NDP Premier, Dave Barrett. The Act is structured to give a veto power to the Trust Council over any local decision made on any island. Further, a non resident Trustee can vote on the affairs of  individual islands, as the third Trustee on Local Trust Committees.

The residents of individual islands cannot vote for all the members of the Trust Council, nor can they vote for the third Trustee that sits on Local Trust Committees.

We believe this situation is out of date, and should be reviewed by the Provincial Government. We are Petitioning the Provincial Government to conduct a full public review of the Islands Trust Act, and the powers of the Trust Council, in a public forum.
